R.E.M.

These nights, I spend most of my sleeping hours dreaming. My dreams are quite vivid and quite frequent, owing mostly (I suspect) to the fact that I can never get comfortable for long enough to actually fall into any kind of deep slumber. As it turns out, at this point in her development, Wee-Dog spends 90-95% of her time in REM sleep. I find this fascinating. What does a baby in utero dream about?

While it may be true that Baby Girl sleeps a lot, she was NOT sleeping last night at 2:10am. Like her mother, she was tossing and turning. Maybe she is starting to find sleeping uncomfortable, too. After all, her living quarters are getting awfully tight! Anyway, it was nice to spend some quality time with her. I realized that it is just one of many nights that we will be awake together in the quiet of the dark hours. Everyone keeps telling us to get and enjoy our sleep while we can. I'm trying (of course) but can't help but look forward to even the fatigue that is headed our way. I know it's easy to say that now, but babies are babies for such a short amount of time. Knowing that we have to make the best of her infancy (and appreciate that even the messiest and loudest and most exhausting of moments is fleeting) is helping us to prepare ourselves for what's to come. Besides, Ethan can sleep through just about everything, so I doubt a crying baby will do much to rouse him!

By the way, Ethan reports that his trip is going quite well in spite of the fact that the Mets lost to the Pirates today. Right now, he is heading to Milwaukee with Brian and looking forward to their first scheduled "drinking night" tomorrow. I am amused that such an event officially made it onto their itinerary. For those of you who know Ethan, planning and schedules are definitely NOT his thing. I can only assume that tomorrow night's ventures are being coordianted by Brian. If you would like to follow along with their journey, they've created their own blog. It can be found at http://destinationiowa.blogspot.com/.

I hope that you (and we!) have a great night! Sweet dreams!

I think Ethan was the one to name it "Drinking Night". Everynight for me is a drinking night... :)
