No More Drama for Mama

I am very happy to report that, contrary to what I would have believed a week ago, my first days back at work were relatively easy and surprisingly enjoyable. I finally came to terms with the fact that my maternity leave was over, and was actually excited to head to Rashi on Tuesday morning. In fact, it was a relief! After so many weeks of knowing the return was both inevitable and imminent, it took enormous pressure off to finally just move on with life. As I kept saying to family and friends, the end of my maternity leave ended up being a dog whose bark was worse than its bite. Of course I missed Maddy during my time away from her, but on the other hand I really loved being reunited with my students and colleagues and having a chance to use my brain again! Not that you don't use your brain as a mom, but it's very different; parenthood requires intuition and feeling more than it does logic and rationale. In a way, a return to work will be very balancing in terms of the way I harness my energies. And Maddy seems to have fared very well.

We are enjoying yet another snow day. We were able to have some quality Solomon family time this morning. This weekend has been a relaxed one. Yesterday I had the chance to celebrate two happy occasions; the end of my sister Lindsey's bachelorette days (she and Scott will be "The Andersons" this time next week), which was marked with a morning at the spa, and my mother's birthday, which was marked with champagne, Thai take-out, and vegan cupcakes! Maddy was especially excited to attend her first family birthday party, and she gave her Bubbe a card entitling her to as many kisses and Saturday night playdates as she desires! Happy Birthday Bubbe!!
