Hiccups and Birth Stories.

One of the most recent sensations I've had the privilege of experiencing is fetal hiccups. At odd moments of the day (and particularly at night when I'm trying to sleep), Wee-Dogg will start hiccuping away. I can only assume that this is what I am feeling; I know that it is common for babies in-utero to get the hiccups as they practice breathing, and it's the only possible explanation for the rhythmic nature of the movements I keep sensing. (Amazingly, and right on cue, she has just started up again!)

I am also pleased to report as we move into Week 35 that Baby Girl is head down and ready to make her appearance with little drama. Fortunately, in this particular instance, she has not inherited her Daddy's tendencies. Ethan, who was a breach baby and therefore delivered via C-section, is often teased by his mother, who insists that he was just being his stubborn ol' self; he was comfortable and had no intention of moving or accommodating anybody else! Those who know Ethan well appreciate the humor and truth of the story. As for me, I was delivered with the assistance of forceps. The obstetrician, who at the time had a cold and wanted to speed things along, decided to use this device to pull me out. My mother, who at the time had an epidural and probably was happy enough at the idea of speeding things along, acquiesced. Unfortunately, in the process of delivering me with forceps, the doctor broke my mother's tailbone. Though she couldn't feel it at the time, she was made painfully aware of the situation when the drugs wore off. To this day, she continues to experience discomfort, though she lovingly points out that she thinks of me whenever she has a pain in her ass!

We are optimistic that Baby Solomon's story will be uncomplicated, relatively painless, and very quick! Though I'm sure parents enjoy reminiscing about interesting birth events retrospectively, as individuals on the cusp of bringing a new life into this world, we would much prefer simple, and even boring, to entertaining or dramatic!

Ethan and I have had a great time this past week. The house has been filled with lots of laughter and fun. It's good to be getting back to normal, and we are trying to make the most of the short amount of time we have left before Wee-Dogg rocks our world! More pictures are soon to come...
