Happy Mother's Day!

It was exciting to experience my first Mother's Day today! Friends and family went out of their way to celebrate my motherhood, and I was so touched by the various cards, e-mails, text messages, phone messages, flowers, and gifts that were sent my way. It was an incredibly special day that moved me in unexpected ways. Of course, feelings of utter love and appreciation for my daughter abounded. It is impossible to enjoy Mother's Day without acknowledging the baby who MADE me a mother...who broke me wide open--physically, emotionally, psychically--and who has brought such wonderment and joy to my life. She's given me purpose and a new identity that I relish in daily. Sometimes I'm embarrassed by how much gushing I find myself doing when asked how she's doing or how I'm finding being a mom. Sometimes it's easier to just smile and say "great," because I know if I get going I'm unlikely to stop! So this day was as much for Maddy as it was for me. I loved the card that I got from her, which she (and Ethan!) gifted with a book called "Is Your Mama a Llama?" We read it together this evening after the day's festivities.

Being a Mama is the "bomb-a!"
