This Booger Looks Like a Fish

The title of this blog post comes courtesy of our friend, Seth Korn...age: 3 years old. Though we weren't there to hear this comment in person, I nevertheless find it hilarious and an exciting reminder of all the fun we've yet to have with Maddy. We enjoyed a visit with the Korns (Lauren, Jerald, Seth, and Justin) and the Moses family (Rebecca, Danny, and Ben) a few weeks ago. Ethan goes way back with these folks, and it was very fun (albeit nuts) to be together with all of our children. I also had the pleasure of reconnecting with my best friend from grade school. As it turns out, Nicki lives with her daughter, Sarah, and husband a mere 1.7 miles away from us. We've seen each other a number of times the past couple of weeks, and it's been a blast reminiscing, reconnecting, and reveling in all our commonalities. The chance to spend time with old friends and look back affords me the opportunity to look ahead and wonder. Life has turned out to be more fantastic and exceptionally complicated than I ever could have dreamed. What adventures lay before us? Who will we be twenty/thirty/forty years from now as we look back and laugh and shake our heads and lose ourselves in thinking of all that's been and all that's happened?

Speaking of all that's happened...where did the past month go? All I can say is that the end of the school year is always a blur and an unhappily hectic time. While we've been immersed in writing progress reports, transitioning our students, and juggling the demands of work and parenthood, Maddy has been growing and becoming ever more interesting and fun! She now has two teeth (the second of which cut through her gums after a loooooong Memorial Day weekend), can pull herself into a standing position (which has meant lowering her crib mattress down to the lowest position), and is discovering the wonders of Cheerios. She turned eight months old this past Wednesday (WHAT?!) and is just about the most energetic and busy little girl I've ever seen. She is non-stop! She giggles and talks and plays and delights in the world around her. We are looking forward to our summer together, which begins this Friday when school lets out for vacation!

I am recovering from my wrist surgery, which more or less eliminated the pain I was feeling (though it left me with an unsightly scar). I am relieved to have full use of my right hand again, and anticipate that it will be good as new within a few months. Good decision, mommy!

For those of you who are much more interested in our pictures than my musings, here you go. I owe you many for being neglectful, and so many you will get...
